Chennai to Ooty by caravan
Ooty is the grand tour of South Indian hill stations — and the trip that justifies a caravan with a bedroom more than any other. Five hundred and fifty kilometres each way, tea estates at the top, and a route that becomes part of the holiday when your hotel room travels with you.
How it works
We run Ooty as a three-to-four-day circuit with planned night halts — typically a Salem or Coimbatore-side stop on the way up, then two nights in the Nilgiris. You sleep in the caravan's bedroom at vetted, caravan-safe properties, wake to estate mist on the windows, and never pack or check in twice.
On the hill section our chauffeurs take the gentler Mettupalayam–Coonoor route timed for large-vehicle rules, so the climb is scenic rather than dramatic. Botanical Gardens, Doddabetta, Pykara Lake and a toy-train leg from Coonoor all slot neatly into caravan days.
The 6-seater is the right van for this one — the bedroom, hot shower and full kitchen earn their keep across four days. We stock the pantry before departure and restock en route.

Can a caravan climb the Ooty ghat roads?
Yes — our chauffeurs use the Mettupalayam–Coonoor route, which is the standard large-vehicle climb, timed around hill-road rules. The 36-hairpin Kalhatti route is for bikes and hatchbacks; we leave it to them.
How many days do we need for Ooty by caravan?
Four days is comfortable: one up with a night halt, two in the Nilgiris, one down. Three is possible with an early start. We'll sketch the exact rhythm when you call.
Where does the caravan park in Ooty?
